CNN —A former Pentagon official — driven, he says, by his duty to the truth — goes public with an explosive allegation. Facing a scrum of TV cameras and members of Congress, this official claims that the US government has been keeping crashed alien spaceships under wraps for decades. Crashed alien spacecraft and dead extraterrestrials, right there in the Congressional Record. Because, for decades, UFO true believers have been telling us there’s a US government conspiracy to hide evidence of aliens. But — if you believe Kirkpatrick — the more mundane truth is that these stories are being pumped up by a group of UFO true believers in and around government.

The findings are “extremely exciting and unexpected, especially since Neptune’s previous period of low cloud activity was not nearly as dramatic and prolonged,” Chavez added. The findings also contradict the idea of the clouds being affected by Neptune’s four seasons, which each last about 40 years. Additionally, Neptune storms rising from the deep atmosphere do influence the planet’s cloud cover — but aren’t related to clouds formed in the upper atmosphere. That variable could interfere with studies looking at correlations between photochemically produced clouds and the solar cycle. More research could also suggest how long the near absence of clouds on Neptune might last.

Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb believes that he may have found alien technology. His team found 10 tiny spheres from a meteor that landed off the coast of Papua New Guinea in 2014. The US Space Command said it was "99.999%" certain that the fragments came from another solar system, per CBS. "They will exit the solar system in 10,000 years — just imagine them colliding with another planet far away a billion years from now," he said. "It will take us tens of thousands of years to exit our solar system with our current spacecraft to another star," the astrophysicist added.

Highly speculative while maintaining a tight orbit around reality, “First Contact: An Alien Encounter” supposes what would happen if—or, as many would say, when—humankind receives a confirmable signal of extraterrestrial life. No little green aliens. Just a radio message that we’re not alone. The program, which might have wandered into the cosmological weeds, occupies a well-traveled lane in the science-fiction tradition: The closer fantasy comes to truth, the more convincing it is. And writer-director Nic Stacey doesn’t wander far at all from hard science: The kickoff is the NASA Voyager I probe, 16 billion miles from Earth, picking up a signal.
